The Myth of Equality

In several entries I’ve mentioned Galatians 3:28 which says, “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (ESV)

The second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” (Emphasis mine).

In the US we have many laws meant to prevent discrimination based on race, sex, creed, etc. Many other countries have similar laws.

A video of Trump’s pick for Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, recently surfaced where he said, in part, “I’m straight up just saying we should not have women in combat roles.”

Now he did say that women in the military is perfectly fine, just not on the front lines during combat.

This used to be a normal perspective. Nowadays, if anyone dares to disagree, they are sexists, treating women as second-class citizens, thinking them weak and unintelligent.

As I am wont to do, I jumped into the virtual mosh pit. Plenty of people accused me of all of the above (along with being a moron who can’t open doors by myself).

I can’t help but ask, why do so many want women at the front lines of war to fight other men (because, let’s face it, most armies are made up of men, and if we ever go to war, our military will be fighting other men). Women especially took my comments as an insult to their intelligence and/or overall capabilities.

My comments are based solely on biology and the fundamental and natural physical differences between men and women. As I’ve said before, men and women each have different weaknesses and strengths. God created men and women to complement the other, not to compete against each other. Sure, there are outliers, but they’re far too rare to use as a legitimate reason for allowing any and/or all women in combat zones.

We simply need to admit to and understand each one’s natural limitations. This is why most sports don’t mix the sexes, such as football, boxing, MMA, etc. Sure, as some have pointed out, men are now competing with women in all of the above. But that’s men demanding to compete with women where they have a natural advantage. Women, as a result, have both lost out on awards they would have otherwise received, and some have been severely and permanently injured.

How many women are demanding to compete with men, and if they are, how successful have they been in winning against those men?

Yes a woman can fire a gun and kill someone. Yes she can be a pilot, drive a tank, etc. But a scant few can carry over 100 lbs of gear across forests, deserts, and mountains for miles, or carry an injured soldier away from danger. Even fewer could win hand-to-hand combat against a male. And what about when she needs certain hygiene products once a month while in a combat zone when food and water alone are scarce? What if she were to get pregnant?

And why on earth do some actually seem thrilled at the idea of sending women off to endure the horrors of war including death, loss of limb or other permanent injury, the potential for capture and torture, and severe mental damage that could last a lifetime? It’s bad enough we expect young men to experience all that.

So yes, we are equal in God’s eyes. We are also supposed to be equal in the eyes of the law. But a woman is generally no more equal to a man in physical strength than a man is equal in giving birth to a child.

And that’s okay. We’re not supposed to all be the same with the same strengths, talents, or weaknesses. If everyone was a doctor, who would pave our streets or fix our plumbing? Or as Paul said in 1 Corinthians 12:17, “If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell?”
