A Month of Gratitude

Anyone who’s read my blog for a while knows one of my favorite thinkers is Dennis Prager. One of the problems with today’s societies, he claims, is a lack of gratitude. If you want to be happy, be grateful.

I use a journalling app on my iPad called Day One. The basic version is free, but it also has a premium version which costs $2.92/month, billed annually, which works out to $35/year. The premium version, obviously, gives you a lot more options than the basic, such as unlimited journals, secure cloud backup, photos, videos, scan documents to Adobe PDF, 25% book printing discount, and others. I have the premium version, and it’s well worth the cost.

How the two first paragraphs tie together is Day One offers occasional challenges to encourage people to journal. This month (November) is the Month of Gratitude. By signing up, I receive an email every morning with a question on gratitude. For instance the question for the 1st was: What is one good thing I often take for granted?

Day 2: Who do I need to thank?

Day 3: What are three things I’m grateful for, no matter how small?

Although I’ve answered the questions all three days, I haven’t shared them here. Not because I didn’t want to, but I’ve had a busy three days.

One of which is the release of my book, which you can find here: (Note, this will be the only time I’ll brag on my book. I don’t want to make you feel like all I’m interested in is selling you something).

I will thus start with day 3: What are three things I’m grateful for, no matter how small?

1. The fact I can go to the grocery store and still have an unending selection of goods.

2. The older I get, the more aware I am that my body will someday fail. That I still have more than less such as my hearing and sight. In spite of arthritis in my fingers, knees, and now my shoulder, none of it has adversely effected my quality of life (surprisingly since I don’t take care of myself as well as I should).

3. Sunrises and sunsets. Stars. Clouds. Everything in the sky makes me happy.

So what are three things, no matter how small, you’re grateful for?
