Time’s Up

As of four days ago, my year hiatus off social media has ended.

And in those last four days, I’ve yet to login. Every time I think I should, a little voice says, “Don’t do it!”

It’s that little voice I’ve learned to trust. Mostly. I do ignore it when I want something bad enough. Most of the time regret soon follows.

Unfortunately, there are a few groups I must participate in on Facebook such as the ACFW (American Christian Fiction Writers) Dakotas Chapter. I’m the chapter secretary, and since most events happen on said group. The chapter president has been kind enough to keep me updated via email, but I don’t think it’s right for her to make extra effort on my account. Especially since I said I would only take a year off.

So my plan is—eventually—to go back to Facebook and remove myself from all groups except for three. One is the ACFW group, the other is the Realm Makers writers group (another group that posts activities and events such as their yearly conference and winter retreats), and the third is the Inktober group.

Every Inktober (which takes place in October) there are 31 days of drawing prompts. I participated a few years ago and had a lot of fun (although I didn’t make all 31 days; I lasted 18). I learned that I could draw stick figures quite well and made people smile and even laugh (such as the one above, which I’m sure you’ve been wondering how it related to the title). I want to try it again this year.

Yesterday as I took my son back-to-school shopping, I found a book called “200 Drawing Prompts.” So far I’ve done the first two: angel wings and a Dr. Seuss hat. Those were easy!

The next one I’ve yet to tackle. It’s “Your reflection.”

I’m pretty sure I’m going to draw something more abstract instead of literal. One, I’m not used to drawing faces, and I despise people taking pictures of me. I can’t be objective in drawing myself, let alone make it look good. I’ll let my brain simmer on that one for a while.

And who knows? If I keep up with the book prompts over the next six weeks or so, I’ll be an even better stick-figure artist by October.

  1. Smart to come back to the three groups you enjoy. My favorite page is “Colorado Ag Strong”. If interested I’ll send you an invite. Hope you had a nice birthday!
