Capturing the Moments

Gratitude Day 20: What is a skill that I’m grateful to possess?

The most obvious answer would be writing, because, duh.

But that’s not my only skill, thank goodness. Otherwise I would have starved years ago. Then again, if it was my only skill, I would have worked harder to make money at it…

My day job is a registered land surveyor for the last 22 years which I could use as my answer, but nope! As much as I enjoy it and am glad to still be employed, I don’t necessarily want to highlight it. I don’t want to potentially bore my readers with what the job entails.

The skill I’m most grateful for at this moment is photography. It gives me an opportunity to share with others the beauty of God’s creation. I enjoy the challenge of being able to capture a subject well depending on the lighting, the camera’s settings, the lens I’m using, etc. I’m also grateful for owning a digital camera verses film, because I know instantly whether or not my shots are good or bad, I can take thousands and it doesn’t cost me anything but time and battery life–unlike film where one has to make sure the settings are spot on before taking a picture. And one would have to wait at least a day to find out if the pictures are any good.

Note: the picture above is one of the first times I was able to capture lightning. I took it along the Missouri River in North Dakota. The line of lights in the middle is a car passing by on the other side of the river.
