Like it or not, we all judge a book by its cover. We always assume what a book is about by its cover alone. For instance, science fiction will look far different from a daily devotional. It must also catch the eye over all other books on the shelf (or on the internet as the case may be). It must scream “Read me!”
Quality is also key. If a cover looks like a conglomeration of clip art, a reader will assume the quality of writing is equally murky. There’s a reason why many self-published writers nowadays hire professional artists for their cover art.
I, however, am not one. I’ve decided to take a chance on creating my own cover. Not because I didn’t want to spend the money, but because I’m a photographer as well as a writer. In looking through my many thousands (yes, thousands) of photographs, I found one which I thought fit perfectly.
As I’m sure you already figured out, it’s a butterfly. I took it in our backyard a few years ago:

What do you think?
