Using Jesus

I’ve seen this image on Facebook, and I find it offensive on several levels. I realize that was the intent, but sometimes I can’t let it go.

I’m not going to argue the merits or consequences of so-called Obamacare except to say healthcare is not free, to anyone, nor can it ever be. That would mean the doctors, nurses, janitors, administrators, etc., those who make all the equipment and medications would have to work for free as well.

The point of this picture and the inserted text is to point out the hypocrisy of Christians who oppose healthcare reform.

I see this as the equivalent of taking the Lord’s name in vain. It’s using Jesus, his message and life as a way to hurt those who believe in him, or at least in an attempt to shut them up.

That’s what else I find offensive. Jesus expects us to be his partner in this life to help those who need his love and compassion the most. We are not to use his name to make a political point.

Some say Jesus would more likely be a Republican vs a Democrat and vice-versa. Truth is, he’s neither. He is God. He’s not a politician and seeks not the approval of man. He is love which transcends all political boundaries. He seeks our heart, not our political affiliations.

Let’s not lose sight of Jesus’ true purpose which is save us all from our sins, not make certain people get “free” birth control.
